Why do we need a new way to organise?
The hierarchical organisation has served businesses well for over two centuries but the assumptions upon which it is founded are no longer true. Consider the statements below; The more senior person does not always have more experience. Reporting lines can easily be substituted for by new technology which allows more people to co-ordinate their activities rather than rely on 1:1 boss subordinate co-ordination.  Complex problems can only be solved by cross functional and integrated working which is non-hierarchical.  The customer or supplier is no longer 'outside' the business.  Projects must co-exist with processes.
